All Quiet on the Verdicchian Front

Verdicchio Race does things a little differently. Day Three is relatively quiet - the morning hosted the Open Skate Repechage, where the slowest 24 riders from yesterday's qualifying raced each other for the final seven spots in tomorrow's finals. That meant a cruel consolation final in which the top three would advance, but fourth would miss out. That consolation final was all women, and it was Sabrina Ambrosi of Argentina who was the unlucky fourth.

Carlos Paixão and Melissa Brogni on Fire at Verdicchio

After two runs at Verdicchio qualifying Carlos Paixão switched from regular pushing to mongo to then post the fastest time of the day; 2:19.91, almost two seconds faster than fellow Brazilian Thiago Lessa. In Womens it was similar, with Brazilian, Melissa Brogni's 2:27.92 a massive 3.8 seconds faster than second-placed Lisa Peters of the Netherlands.

Verdicchio Day 1: Wine, Salami and Hail

A rider pack containing a bottle of local wine and a salami, and a campsite featuring a swimming pool and an espresso machine; Verdicchio Race is the quintessential Italian experience. The event kicked off today with a day of freeride, and the verdict on the track is FUN. The track is wide, the pavement is smooth but slippery, and the 10 corners cover the spectrum between hard braking and...do I need to brake? Unlike many roads in Europe, the corner exits are steep rather than flat, so speeds never drop.
